Do You Take a Sunday Afternoon Nap?

In college and in the first few years of ministry a Sunday afternoon nap was a regular occurrence for me. Last few years though I haven’t as it usually makes me more tired.

Particularly interested to hear from you on this one. If you preach or lead worship on a weekly basis does that mean you are more or less likely to take a nap?

Does a rough Sunday or a critical comment make you want to go back to bed or can you not stop thinking about it?

So do you take a Sunday afternoon nap?

My naps are usually on Saturdays, during College Football season. I typically fall asleep just before half-time of the Noon kickoff game, and then wake up at the end of the 1st qtr of the 3:30 kickoff games.

Before Internet, I had to wait to find out who won the game I missed. :-)

With me starting my new ministry role in May, I’m guessing Sunday afternoons are going to be in the nap zone.

A Sunday afternoon nap is critical for me. I don’t often preach on Sunday morning (maybe 3 or 4 times a year) but I often lead communion thoughts or do announcements… as well as my typical connecting with students and leading Sunday school or classes. We have our youth group on Sunday nights and I need that 45-60 minutes of naptime to reboot and get energized for our 90 minute youth group worship service. If I miss my Sunday afternoon nap, I’m in trouble!

I wondered about those of us that have responsibilities on Sunday morning and evening. Thanks Jim.

Oh heck yes — except when I’m prevented :-) In my denomination, jokes run rampant about “the Nazarene Nap” on Sundays.

I only nap if I don’t have Sunday night responsibility — if I do I’m like you and I just come out of it more miserable than before. My wife on the other hand goes into a coma each week…

Definitely couldn’t do it if I had Sunday night responsibilities.

Never wake a napping wife. Particularly a pregnant one.
