The Opposite of Rob Bell

Mark Driscoll has opinions, and he is almost always extremely clear about them.  A lot of people like him for this and he has become one of the de facto spokesmen for the Reformed movement within Christianity that is, in some respects, a conservative reaction to postmodern expressions of following Christ.

Sometimes I think I am more Reformed then I realize.

How do you know if someone is Reformed?  Well the current litmus test is how they react to Rob Bell’s new book Love Wins. They may have the same name for their churches, but Bell and Driscoll don’t exactly agree on many things.  In the video below Driscoll is explicitly clear on heaven and hell.

After you watch the video ask yourself the question: “Are you in danger?”

Too bad with the following Rob Bell has he can’t preach like this. To bad he has to make his own feel good gospel.

I follow your argument, and see plenty of very serious Christians who have major issues with Bell. I guess my question is knowing where you stand would you consider Bell (and those who agree with him) to be a serious Christian?

What’s really too bad is that that we have nothing better to talk about that Rob Bell and Mark Driscoll’s differing views on Hell. The Bible that I read seems to suggest that we are all desperate for God’s mercy, regardless of what we believe about Hell or how big our following is or how many books we sell.

preach chris. it’d be awesome if people would focus on winning the lost and loving others instead of comparing pastors. get a life.

Comparing pastors is just an easy way to map out the conversation, and not to be harsh but this conversation informs how we go out and love others.

I will be the first to admit that things can get out of balance and that action has to occur.

I’m not trying to promote a Christ is optional form of Christianity. But this video will spare me from writing a paragraph, on why I think Driscoll’s use, and a common use of John 14:6 to tell people they are going to Hell if they’ve never heard of Christ, is flawed.

First of all thanks for sharing and commenting Jeff.

Great video and thanks for sharing. Agree that we run into trouble when we assume that the way we come to a relationship with God is the only way to come to such a relationship. In Love Wins Bell closes the book with his story of accepting Christ. It is about as routine of a conversion story within American Evangelicalism as you could get. For me this was helpful to give context and a bit or perspective that he isn’t denying experiences that are known and affirmed.
